My first art project is going to be THIS...click here to find out how you can sew some "Ditty Bags" for the Haitian children I plan to use some scraps of thrift store clothing, needle and thread, handsewn with thoughts of hope and healing for children in need. Like Matt said, compared to Haiti, we just stumped our little toe at Heritage Haus.

Mom, Jack, Patty, David ( my baby brother)
Three weeks ago, while Texas temps dipped below 20 degrees, our hearts were warmed by the love of family and friends as we celebrated my step fathers 80th birthday near the Florida coast in Merritt Island.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACK

In 24 hours, my brave son and his beautiful new wife will be on Texas soil for 2 weeks! My arms are stretched so wide open I think I am going to rip in half!! He is currently stationed in Virginia, and this will be his last hoorah for a while as he deploys in March to Iraq to work on foreign soil for one year. We will walk on the beach at Padre Island, we will sip Shiner Boch in Carmine, we will laugh and cry as much as four adults can possibly muster up! OK, fine, I will be the one with a snotty, red nose and puffy eyes and a smile that would make Mona Lisa giggle. So for just a while, my life is perfect!

feeling disjointed and scattered, I am longing for a nest to fly home to each night. It will be 2 weeks before we move into a little studio cottage nearby Heritage Haus. It will be 6-8 weeks before insurance settles. It might be 6-8 months of rebuild. It will be forever that Matt and I continue to walk this journey together, in love with tenacity. That is the one thing I know for sure!

upon completion of gutting the entire bottom floor of our home, we decided to take some time off and recharge our batteries. Last night was fun-filled with friends, food and fire as we gathered around a bonfire, sipped various spirited libations and avoided political and religious banter. The evening was topped off with candles atop a cheesecake, my favorite birthday cake. I am now exactly twice the age of my 26 year old son. Thank you a million times over and over for all your cards, gifts and various acts of kindness in this unusual time of "rebirth" for us here at Heritage Haus.

we have turned a corner and almost secured all our downstairs belongings in plastic containers, stripped down all sheetrock, peeled old wallpaper...the kind with fabric behind the paper! The upstairs is to be reckoned with next week, as it has less damage. and now it is time for some porchtime with a bit of wine and a fishing line...this is a small view from where we are staying, Roznov Farm in Warrenton, with a grateful heart, Deb & Matt, Scott & Deanna
