a familiar scent

My next door neighbors laundry hanging on the line this morning transcended me to Isla Mujeres, Mexico, where I lived before I came to Carmine. The local 'Lavederias" used the same strong smelling detergent that permeated the air all over the island mixed with Pollo BBQ, taquerias, and Tikin Xic ( traditional fish grilled on a plank on open fire) Funny how a familiar scent can take you so far away to another time and place like it was right this very moment. So have a wander with me down some familiar sights of my old neighborhood, and tell me if you can smell it too...?

symbolisms

As I ponder and wander, here are a few images that surround me. Do you know why the American flag is backwards when you see it displayed on a patch like this? The bearer served WarTime, so it symbolizes carrying a flag into the windy warzone. My sons first and only tattoo is a backwards flag embedded on his calf forever. If there is light in the Soul, there will be Beauty in the person. If there is Beauty in the person, there will be Harmony in the house. If there is Harmony in the house, there will be order in the Nation. If there is order in the Nation, there will be PEACE in the World. ~Chinese Proverb~

Time for a Cool Change

Can you feel it? That fresh snap in the morning air. Keyword: MORNING. Yep, if you live in South Central Texas and walked outside this morning to that familiar once a year feeling that we might really get some relief from a long hot dry summer. The 68 degree breeze sent me and my coffee right back in the house to grab a light jacket. My PEACE jacket Frances made for me.I wrapped myself in some cozy thoughts of a peaceful world, healthy children and harmony in our homes. The September breeze reminded me that change is possible, right around the corner. Oh sure, it will still reach the mid-nineties today, but for now, the doors are wide open, my heart is at peace and my mind is restful.
