Babies and Angels

~When babies look beyond you and giggle, maybe they're seeing angels.~

~Be an angel to someone else whenever you can, as a way of thanking God for the help your angel has given you. ~

for Sweet Bella...may the Angels hold you in their wingfold.

My donation is a set of 10 notecards made from my original photographs of Angels from my travels. Go here to Junk Sistas for more details.

eat your veggies

most folks assume I am a vegetarian. for the most part, it is my food of choice, yet when I chose meat, I prefer it to have once worn feathers or fins, not so much fur. I don't like chicken-fried-mystified, nor processed meats with little bits of foreign rubble that I need to spit out. I could eat raw tuna and salmon sashimi all day long. my friends burrow in fresh veggies from the city, organic gardens and markets. they know that good wine, wholesome grains and organic veggies make this girl one happy camper! last week I tried a version of Upside Down Broccoli Cornbread, darn good. email me is you want the recipe.

Pushing Photoshop

OK, that does it. I am damned and determined to learn at least ONE technique in Photoshop, so I pushed myself, Dawn, and Matt to hold my hand, (and hold the phone since Dawn is in Seattle) step by step. After a few tantrums and glasses of wine, I think I gave myself a deep suntan from the self portraits yesterday and aged my tiny little angel just a few more years! This might be fun. I normally don't like to alter my photos, but I just love the grungy, scratchy layers available. I promised Dawn to keep practicing and do my homework...so I gotta go now. Recess is over.

Aunt Susan

My Aunt Susan. She brought me flowers this weekend. Does she realize that daisies are my favorite flower? Did you know that her first name is Daisy? Let me tell you more. She was...IS my "cool aunt" 9 years my senior, so when I was a teenager, I pretty much thought she was the coolest relative I had. She took me to my first stage play( The Rainmaker) , my first restaurant ( Pelican Steakhouse in Austin) where I actually got up from my chair to make my own salad! She gave me a Ukelele and all Peter, Paul, Mary music, so I could play a concert if you loved Puff The Magic Dragon and Blowin in The Wind. She wrote me letters when she was in college. She brought me expensive gifts after she lived in Germany. She always gives the perfect gift, running a close race with my sister-in-law Dana. But Susan really knows what to bring me, now that she scours Thrift Stores and beach roads for rusty bits, and wool sweaters ~ wink~ Now that she only lives one hour away and is retired we gather here at my place and make up for lost time. Thank you Susan for still bringing me my most favorite gifts. The following is an excerpt from my most favorite camp El Tesoro camp song . May all of your dreams bloom like daisies in the sun. May you always have stars in your eyes. May you not stop running, not until your race is won. May you always have blue skies.

eyes of a child

"We must teach our children to dream with their eyes open" quote by Harry Edwards, photos by me from Isla Mujeres, Mexico to Carmine, Texas

fresh

eggs so fresh they still have feathers on them! Texas wildflowers under my feet. Indian Blankets. and finally, fresh hard rains have arrived to quench the parched Earth here in Central Texas. The thunder has been rolling all around me today, as I am tucked nicely inside with a fresh pot of green tea, freshly baked bran-flax muffins and my new Somerset Studio magazine!

why do I blog?

blog, blog blog. I write. I take pictures. I like to talk, laugh, communicate, inspire, be inspired, journal, share, reach out and touch, meet new friends, learn, grow, expand, and challenge myself. That is what I will start doing tomorrow...AGAIN! Misty has extended an invitation for a self portrait challenge in photographs this time to be shared every Wednesday. I went looking thru my older files of self portraits and gathered them all into one place here on Flickr. I know that when I blog, it truly is a self portrait presented by stories and views inside my life, my home, my moments. I rarely edit my photos, yet wish I was more patient with Photoshop and all the wonderful artsy layers and filters available to me. I guess I prefer the organic rawness of a photograph that captures the unperfect moment that honestly is real life. So as I embrace my puffy eyes, saggy turkey neck, new curvy curves and thinning hair, I will continue to grow older and rounder, with or without you. Matt is always nearby, somehow capturing moments and views I am sometimes unaware of, and these are a few of my favorites.
