Fare thee well, my One Son

Remember the final days of summer when you wish you never had to go back to school? Remember the day that finally came when surgery was scheduled and you wish you would never wake up? Remember those far-away vacations that you didn't want to return home from? Remember those perfect weekends that you never wanted the Sunday sun to set? Today was one of those days for me. My son is on a bus to Kuwait, via Baltimore and Germany. His wife, Rachel remained home in Richmond, Virginia to keep the home fires burning. He will serve his second tour of duty in Iraq for one year as a Scuba Diver in the Army. Pray. Wish. Hope. Please be mindful of each and every single one of our soldiers deployed, that they will return home safely to their friends and families. And when you see a flag like this , it represents a family member serving active duty.

PROGRESS AND MORE DEMOLITION

I never thought about having to buy scaffolding when I became owner of a house with 14 foot ceilings....but hell yes! Who knew I could get so excited about such a purchase but Matt found a bargain on Craigs List and we will be in business next week, tearing out ceilings and more walls. and we spent part of Friday date night at Home Depot buying dust masks, safety glasses and knee pads!! Can't wait for Wednesday Self Portraits!

adDRESSing the Situation

Art Quilting Studio, hit the bookstores and mailboxes to subscribers this week, is featuring a very important article about the tragic deaths of women and girls in Juarez, Mexico. Monica of Girl Gone Thread Wild inspired us to submit dresses of art and attention to this topic. My dress " Pockets of Dreams" is one of four featured. Go buy this magazine for the entire article and tons of inspirations of art in fabric, beads, paint and mini-art-quilts! Here is an excerpt of my interview..." Deb Taylor pays attention to stories that strike her heart cords and is not afraid to use her talents and her art to call attention to tragedies....I believe in the power of collective consciousness....when I lived in Isla Mujeres, Mexico, my neighbors were beautiful, young, innocent and deserving women and girls....each pocket represents the life of a young woman, a child, a girl with a longing to grow up" You can view the other art dresses by clicking here DRESS UP FOR A CAUSE

dancing with the laundry
after breakfast of the best papaya I have eaten since I lived in Mexico, I went on a walk-about in the brisk sunshine with my new haircut and a handful of Spring flowers. I am feeling the call of Self Portrait Wednesdays again...anyone else wanna join me??

with a grateful heart and hands

From that very first moment in January when we returned to our home destroyed by water, we swam through a vast river of feelings and emotions. …hysteria, fear, sadness, loss, uncertainty, anger, guilt, and darkness.

However, from the very beginning, you, our community, friends and family have abundantly and generously offered glimmers of light to keep us going. You have refreshed our hope and guided us to turn a corner.Like a Phoenix, Heritage Haus will rise again!!

Your gifts have reconfirmed that the way we try to live our life really does work! “Do onto others as you would have others do unto you”.

We are enthusiastic about this new opportunity for Heritage Haus. It will be better than ever before! It is our deepest desire to rebuild and restore her to the best of our abilities.

Thank you for your interest in our future; your love, support and concern has been heartfelt by us both.

Matt says, “My father died when I was young, and one of the few things I remember him saying was “ A mans wealth is judged by his family and friends” so by that measure of wealth, Deb and I are the richest folks alive!!

"Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have …life itself". ~Walter Anderson~
