Dia de los Muertos

Today I travel to San Miguel, Mexico with Rebecca, Meri,Stephanie and four other friends to be. Our blogs introduced us to each other and now we will experience a trip of a lifetime together. Rebecca has arranged private tours, hikes, delicious local cuisine and cooking class, shopping at local Mercados and intimate personal home tours like this one! ~ Be still my beating heart!~We will participate in the Day of the Dead celebrations, parades, and festivals, and observe the traditional altars and ofrendas honoring and celebrating those who have passed. I am flattered beyond belief to be invited to join this group and experience this traditional holiday in Mexico.
Like Rebecca said earlier this week~we will be swimming in candlelight together~
I like that.
Some ask if I am afraid to go.
No.
I would be more afraid to spend one week in Houston. I will return here in 10 days with a gagillion photo memories and stories to share. ~Adios~

dancing with life

she laced up her dancing shoes every day,
opening her heart as she did so.
stepping into the all,
she kicked up her feet,
touched the stars,
and danced with life.

Cups for Cure

October is Breast Cancer Awareness. I was a contributing photographer again for this years Art Bra Calender. Here are a few shots from the photo shoot, and the Pink Ribbon Affair. If you want to purchase a $10 calender 2011, contact me. All proceeds go to the Lee County Cancer Support Center. The models are survivors wearing the art bras submitted to the contest...it was a very moving day for me. Thank you to the  brave, strong women of this project and to their families who support them thru it all.

pencil me in

Matt surprised me with a gift last week. We arrived at our friend Sams farm to eat dinner, but found him on the back porch finishing up the details of a pencil drawing of my self portrait.

It felt oddly interesting and erotic watching him touch the image of my lines and curves with his colored pencils, forming a beautiful piece of art.
Thank you Sam
Thank you Matt
then it was off to Sams garden who picked our dinner vegetables of okra, eggplant, and peppers
Priceless

Happy Birthday Jean

Today my friend Jean Synodinos turns 50. She is a singer/songwriter living in Austin, Texas. I met her one year ago when I photographed the CUPS FOR CURE Calender. She is a breast cancer survivor. She is beautiful, clever and always witty! I am honored to be her Photography Mentor in earning her Girl Scout Badge! YEP...you read that right...she is tempering her mid-life crisis by launching a three year project to earn over 100 badges in the Junior Girl Scout Handbook. Is that hilarious? What an adventure to start at 50 years of age! I am actually giggling as I type this. Come watch this You Tube Video as she explains her project, and also her video YES is a Sexy Word  yes, oh yes!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEAUTIFUL LADY!

Pumpkin Fever

Now I am outa control...I am not even decorating for the holidays but I am having a wee little bit too much making these darn pumpkins....as you can see, the military ones will be shipped to my son in Kuwait. And the funky brights, well, I get to visit my daughter-in-law this weekend in Virginia...so....GIFTS ALL AROUND!!

upcycled Pumpkins

sweaters, wool scarves, t-shirts, corduroy men's shirts and chenille bedspreads became my first batch of pumpkins. Now I am planning to drag out some vintage brights and maybe a special one for my Army Soldier and his bride!!
