Walk to End Alzheimer's

On September 26, 2015 my Mom, Lyn Keil, and I
will lace up our shoes,
dye our hair purple and "Walk to End Alzheimer's",
the nationwide annual event to raise awareness and funds for support, care and research.

when you're Jack

Where you’re Jack

It takes a minute to forget who or where you are

It takes thirty minutes to eat a bite of pizza

It takes my Mom to complete bathroom duties

It takes a village to support and love the man we know

When you’re Jack, you tell the same story over and over,
every five minutes like it just happened

And we laugh.

And we love

my next story is about my Mom, his Hero

The world according to Jack

his world closes in
now confused with yesterday
his stories amuse

He tells Mom today the reason it is so cold,
is because of all the holes up in the sky
Loving and living with Alzheimer's is a testimony of true love
I love you Mom and Jack
He thanks me for cleaning his glasses so he can hear better.
He assures me that it helps the sound wave frequency.
Mom is wondering if he wears his hearing aids
will he see better??

Jack is getting along

Most of you know the story of Jack, my stepdad, experiencing Alzheimer's. His recent doctor visit suggested a cane due to some inbalance issues.
Are you kidding me?
He balked, cussed and grumbled.
But just in the nic of time, friends John & Dean decided to gift him with a "Walking Stick".

Jack has been an influence in their lives and talents as members of the  {Rock, Gem & Mineral Club} and traditionally they make walking sticks, hand-carved from exotic wood, embellished with feathers and beads for the Elders they have come to know and respect.

well, let me tell you this.
Jack and his stick are inseperable

he proudly struck this sassy pose after telling the story
of his friends who custom made it just for him
and the height is a perfect match!!

I love this man
and thank you John & Dean
for helping Jack with his walk to be a bit easier thru this life

Mom and Jack

this is my morning view everyday, as I sip coffee with Mom and Jack.
We live three doors down, but somehow this similar routine feels like home to me.
He reads the Sunday funnies on Tuesdays
She is the Queen of Crosswords and Sudoku
He fixes things that ain't broke
Life is good.
  Full of love and laughter.....
and some interesting stories...over and over.

He reminds us every night that Merritt Island is surrounded by water, that's why we do not have bad storms.
He jumped off 57 foot towers, ate worms,  hates eggplant, oysters and the weather in Pennsylvania.
Wait a minute...I have already told you these stories, right??

how about last week when he and Mom were enjoying a leisure walk around a local park.
He declared he needed to find a bathroom, so they piled back up into the car, drove to the nearest bathroom. When Mom stopped the car, he said " I'll just wait for you here"

We laugh. We love. And we are all here together.
